PORTLAND – Oregon has legalized sports betting but what does that mean? Are there options to bet on the Oregon Ducks? Can Oregon residents wager through their phone?

Oregon expects major sports betting revenues. Provisional sports betting revenue projections are for up to $35.5 million in the first year, rising to $100 million a year, according to Shelby. Oregon’s population is less than half that of New Jersey, so the figures look realistic based on NJ’s experience so far. Oregon Sports Betting at a Glance. The only option to bet on sports online in Oregon is by using the Scoreboard sports mobile betting app. The app was launched in October 2019 and is run by the Oregon State Lottery. Oregon State Lottery facilitates all sports betting in the state.

With the new industry launching, the questions will continue to pop up because truth be told a majority of the state has yet to actually wager on sports and simply don’t know.

Only one venue in Oregon is currently open for business – the Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City. This US sportsbook will allow you to make a wager on college football – even the Oregon Ducks.

But Lincoln City is about two hours from both Portland and Eugene, so the population majority is located a bit too far away for some people’s preference.

Between drive times and potentially getting hotel rooms, the costs of placing a bet seem to deter people before they can even think about enjoying the newly legalized hobby.

In this situation, bettors may want to try their luck with mobile betting instead. The State Lottery is preparing to launch the online platform for Oregon residents, but this won’t be ready in time for college football season.

Besides, even when they do launch in a few weeks, they will not offer odds on the Oregon Ducks or any collegiate betting action. If waiting isn’t an option, and driving to the coast seems like it’s not worth the time, bettors will have to turn to offshore sportsbooks.

These outlets are still an option that residents utilize at their own discretion, despite the state licensing their own industry. Also, with customers from around the world, the betting odds for Oregon (+145) to beat Auburn (-165) will likely not come with higher vigorish from the local bettors piling on one side of the line like you would see at Chinook Winds.

With these offshore accounts, you can also find live betting action that has yet to be matched in-state. With the game kicking off in Arlington at 7:30 pm EST on Saturday, August 31, be sure not to miss any moments of the action.

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. – Sports betting in Oregon will finally launch next Tuesday, August 27 at 9 a.m. But it won’t be through the Oregon Lottery, as many people have anticipated all year.

Instead, the Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City will be the first place that sports bettors in the Beaver state will be able to place their wagers. The Las Vegas Dissemination Company (LVDC) will be the sports betting provider for the first-ever OR sportsbook.

“In our search for a service provider, LVDC stood out from the start. Their professionalism and experience have been on display from day one. We are excited to have them by our side as begin to offering sports wagering for our guests,” said Will Robertson, Director of Casino Operations in a press release.

The casino is able to run a sportsbook in Oregon due to the set up of the compact between the state and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon. Essentially, the way it works is that the tribes can offer any game that the lottery can.

However, the sportsbook at Chinook Winds Casino does come with a couple of distinct differences over the Lottery option soon to come.

The first feature that will stand out to those located outside of the Lincoln City area is that any sports wagering options that Chinook Winds Casino provides must be handled on-site.

“All of our wagering will be done in person. We will have no online wagering options,” said Robertson.

One advantage that the tribal casino holds is that it will be able to offer college sports betting in Oregon. The Lottery will only provide betting lines for professional sports when it launches. That date seems to be slightly postponed as a source told the Oregonian.

“Once we are satisfied with everything, we’ll move it into a production environment. Then we do one more round of security testing to ensure everything performs the same in the live environment as it did in testing. The testing will drive our launch date, as opposed to cutting corners to hit the first kickoff,” said the source.

The sportsbook at Chinook Winds Casino will open in time before the start of the 2019 NFL season and in time before the Oregon Ducks season opener against the Auburn Tigers. Both options will require bettors to be 21 years old in order to legally place a sports bet.
