‘how i’m feeling now’ is Charli’s fourth album and was released in May 2020 by Atlantic Records. It was written, recorded and released in 39 days during lockdown. Charli welcomed fans into her creative process, encouraging them to use the music to inspire their own creativity. The album features the singles ‘forever’, ‘claws’, ‘I finally understand’ and ‘enemy’.

Future Nostalgia

Dua Lipa

‘Future Nostalgia’, Dua Lipa’s second album was released in March 2020 by Warner Records. It topped the UK Album Charts, debuted at Number 4 on the US Billboard 200 and produced the Top 10 singles ‘Don’t Start Now’, ‘Physical’ and ‘Break My Heart’. Dua worked with new collaborators on the album including producers Andrew Watt and Jeff Bhasker.

The Newcastle band’s fourth album was released in February 2020 by Bella Union. Lanterns on the Lake are Hazel Wilde, Paul Gregory, Oliver Ketteringham, Bob Allan and Angela Chan. The album was recorded at Distant City Studios in Yorkshire. The lyrics were written by vocalist Hazel Wilde and the album was produced by guitarist Paul Gregory. It includes the singles ‘Every Atom’, ‘Baddies’ and ‘When It All Comes True’.

Song for Our Daughter

Laura Marling

Laura Marling’s seventh studio album ‘Song for Our Daughter’ was released in April 2020 by Chrysalis/Partisan Records. The album was co-produced by Laura’s longtime collaborator Ethan Johns. It was written primarily by Laura except the title track ‘Song for Out Daughter’ written with George Jephson and ’The End of the Affair’ with Blake Mills. The album includes the single ‘Held Down’.

Michael Kiwanuka

‘KIWANUKA’ was released in November 2019 on Polydor and is Michael Kiwanuka’s third album. It was produced by Danger Mouse and British hip hop producer Inflo andwas recorded in LA, New York and London. The album reached Number 2 in the UK Album Chart. Moses Boyd’s debut solo album ‘Dark Matter’ was released in February 2020 on his own label Exodus Records. Brighton and London based Porridge Radio released their second album in March 2020 on Secretly Canadian. The band are Dana Margolin, Maddie Ryall, Georgie Stott and Sam Yardley. Dana Margolin is the principal songwriter and producer and the album was mixed by Oli Barton-Wood. It includes the singles ‘Lilac’, ‘Sweet’ and ‘Circling’.

Sports Team

Sports Team are Alex Rice, Henry Young, Rob Knaggs, Oli Dewdney, Ben Mack and Al Greenwood. They met in Cambridge and are now London based. The band’s debut album was released in June 2020 on Island Records and reached Number 2 in the UK Album Chart. It was produced by Burke Reid and features the singles ‘Here it Comes Again’, ‘Fishing’, ‘The Races’ and ‘Here’s the Thing’.

South London’s Stormzy released his second studio album in December 2019 on #MerkyRecords/Atlantic Records. The album includes the chart topping singles ‘Vossi Bop’ and ‘Own It’. This Made Stormzy the first British solo rapper to achieve the chart double with ‘Heavy is the Head’ and ‘Own It’ both claiming Number 1 positions. The 1975, Foals and IDLES are are among the nominees for the 2019 Mercury Music Prize.

The trio lead the 12-strong shortlist for the prize, which also includes Cate Le Bon, Dave and slowthai.

Anna Calvi, Black Midi, Fontaines DC, Little Simz, NAO and Seed round out the shortlist.

The prize will be presented at a ceremony at the Eventim Apollo, Hammersmith on Thursday 19th September.

Many of the nominated acts will perform on the night and there will be live television and radio coverage of the event on BBC Four and BBC Radio 6 Music.
